Biography

The birth data on Jacob's family of origin and decendents are confirmed in a Bible given to him December 24, 1887. This Bible is with Harold Petersen.

In Jacob and Caroline's family there are 7 children; 8 Grandchildren; 17 Great grandchildren; 24 Great-great grandchildren; 2 Great-great-great grandchildren. 6 Generations. 58 direct descendants; 35 spouses and 2nd family children.

Jacob is the oldest son of Ole P and Karen Marie Petersen. Jacob attended the district school, later the village school at Stone Bank, worked on the farm with his father until the death of his father in 1899 and his marriage November 5, 1902. Jacob and Caroline moved to the farm of 80 acres where he lived until his death in 1952. This is part of the Riley farm, the rest of which was purchased at the same time by his brother, Christian. He built his home and soon after a new barn and has otherwise greatly improved the place since he occupied it. There are 70 acres under cultivation, devoted to the raising of grain and hay, for the support of the herd of from 15 to 20 dairy cattle that form the chief industry of the place. Other live-stock, horses, hogs, etc. are also raised. With his brothers he is also interested in a threshing-machine. The family belongs to St. John's Lutheran Church of Stone Bank, of which Jacob is one of the trustees and an active worker. He has also served as organist since 1888. In politics he is a Democrat and was county Supervisor in 1900.[1]
