Ina (Peterson) Niemi was born on October 3, 1895 in Gloucester, Essex County, Massachusetts, USA. Her parents were Henry J. Peterson (1847 - 1917) and Katharina M. (Laslier) Peterson (1852 - 1923).

Ina married Onni Kosti Syrjaniemi (1889 - 1962) on February 14, 1918 in Hancock, Houghton, Michigan, United States.

Their daughter was Maila Elizabeth (Syrjaniemi) Nurmi (1922 - 2008).

Ina died on June 27, 1957 in Los Angeles County, California aged 61. She is buried in Inglewood Park Cemetery, Inglewood, California.
