Biography

Carl was born 21 Apr 1892 Lawrence, Kansas according to his death certificate, which names parents Louis F. Peterson from Denmark and Sophie Mose (possibly Moos) from Missouri. His wife Irma M. Peterson was the informant.^[1]

A 1917 draft card gives the same birth date, in Lawrence, Kansas. He claimed exemption based on a dependent wife and one child.^[2]

Carl married Erma [Irma] Peterson before 1920 when they appear with his mother and several children.^[3]

Daughters Dorothy and Erma are almost certainly Erma's from a previous marriage. Some later records for Billy R name Carl and Erma as his parents, but this is inconclusive without a marriage date or birth record. Margaret (Marguerite in later records) is almost certainly a daughter of Carl and Erma. Only William (17) and Marguerite (12) were still with them in 1930.^[4]

Carl and Irma had daughter Dorothy and her family with them in 1940. Irma's mother Emma was also with them.^[5]

Carl C died 30 May 1943 at 51.^{[1] [6]} He left Irma, 3 daughters, and a son.^[7]

Research Notes

There seems to be another Carl Peterson with very similar data. In 1900 there was a Carl Peterson in Kansas City with mother Sophia and brother Frank, very similar to the 1910 record referenced above. However, the 1910 record shows his father as from Sweden rather than Denmark and his birthplace as Missouri rather than Kansas. Most telling, his birth month was Dec 1891, while all later records for "our" Carl show Apr 1892. Also, a sister who was 22 in 1910 does not appear in 1900.

Another thing to watch out for is a marriage of Carl C. Peterson to Rose E. Peterson on 17 Sep 1910. This could be the same person or not. So far I have been unable to tell whether this was Carl's first marriage or a different Carl altogether.

Descendants of Irma's daughter Irma have posted family photos on other sites. Perhaps one of them will find this and provide clarification. Of course anyone is welcome to improve on the information here.
