Biography

Johann Petree has German Roots.
1776 Project
Captain Johann Petree served with North Carolina Militia during the American Revolution.

Military Service: Revolutionary War Veteran served as a Capt. North Carolina Militia under Gen. Rutherford. And Services against the Chicamoga Indians.

Adam a son of Johan Jacob Petry and Anna Eva Kuehnlin Petry. Married to Anna Rosina Frey in 1777.

He immigrated on the Loyal Judith in 1743, and married Anna Eva Koehulin [spelling varies] at Moselem Zion Church, Berks Co. PA on September 9, 1747. They were in Surry County NC by 1786[1], but probably actually moved there some years earlier, since most (all?) of their children came with them (see notes below that were carried over by earlier gedcom imports and profile merges). Stokes County was formed from the eastern half of Surry County in 1789, and he appears in the 1790 in Stokes County. He received a land grant in Stokes Co. in 1799.

His will was dated 18 Sep 1803, probated September term 1804 Stokes Co. NC will book 2:54. He was buried at Beaver Dam Lutheran Church in Stokes County.

Obituary: Adam Petry was killed when his wagon overturned. [Salem Diary 1793, September 12th] Br. Kramsch, of Hope, today held the funeral of Adam Petri, A man who died in the neighborhood, and this gave opportunity to preach in German and English in the German church on Muddy Creek to a large congregation.

I believe this is the same person as Petree-105, but that he died in 1793 in North Carolina. See Find A Grave Memorial# 25073013
