Margaret E. Pelman, 96, of Westville, IL, passed away at 2:40pm, Saturday, May 6, 2017, at Colonial Manor Nursing Home, Danville.
She was born on December 30, 1920, in Westville, IL, the daughter of John and Mary {Lesko} Petrus. She was united in marriage to Charles R. Pelman on June 22, 1946, at St. Mary’s Church in Westville, IL, until his passing on October 16, 1997.
Those who will miss her include: her children, Charles W. (Mavis) Pelman of Rockford, Char Shields of Danville, Janet (Ralph) Puzey of Westville, & Kenneth (Brenda) Pelman of Danville; her grandchildren, Aaron Pelman, Josh Pelman, Nathan (Jodi) Pelman, Ryan (Heather) Shields, Kara (Boone) Billings, Laura (BJ) DeAth, Jill (Dane) Larson, Michelle (Aaron) Ritter, Trent (Jovanda) Pelman, & Katrina (Lee) Cox; her 19 great grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Rosalind Pelman of St. Charles, IL; and her many nieces & nephews.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; one brother, Michael Petrus; and her sister, Mary Drahnak.
Margaret worked at Interstate Printing for over 40 years as a bookbinder. She was a member of Holy Family Church and served as President of the Interstate/Bell Credit Union. She was very proud of her Slovak heritage. She loved to bake traditional Slovak pastries & dinners. She loved having family gatherings and enjoyed decorating for the holidays. Even during her stay at Colonial Manor, her family continued to celebrate all the holidays with her. Margaret was a beloved resident at the nursing home for six years and considered the staff as family.
Margaret was a proud Den Leader of the Cub Scouts and continued supporting Scouting. With her assistance, her two sons and five grandsons achieved the Eagle Scout Award. She loved attending her children’s & grandchildren’s sporting events and was their “biggest fan”. She enjoyed all the soccer, baseball, basketball, and volleyball, as well as 4-H & FFA events they were involved in. She cherished her family and will be missed by all whose lives she touched.
