Jessie was the only daughter of John Walter Petterson and Constance Jane Scott. She attended 'Upper School', receiving good grades during her time there.
In 1925 she married George Victor Swafford previously of Westport, son of George William Swafford and Mary Elizabeth Carmine.
They settled in Blenheim and had 3 children in their marriage. During the 1950's Jessie and George moved to Ligar Bay to take up dairy farming.
Jessie passed away in 1995, 98 years old and is buried at Kotinga Cemetery, Tasman.
