Richard Peyton left an interesting nuncupative (verbal) will dated 12 Jan 1588/9. [1]The preamble to his will was as follows:
In Hinton upon Green in the county and Diocese of Gloucester the twentieth day of January in the one and thirtieth year of the reign of our sovereign Lady Elizabeth the Queen's Majesty that now is Richard Peyton, late of Badsey in the county of Worcestershire, husbandman, now deceased did his last will by words in effect as followeth:
I, Richard Peyton, am pressed to go forth as a soldier, into the parts beyond the seas and am uncertain whether I shall return or not. (spelling has been modernised for ease of reading) He made bequests to:
my brothers George, William and Symon Peyton
my sister Joan
His will was probated on 19 Sep 1589, [2] He was not buried in the parish of Badsey, so it is likely that he perished "over the seas."
There was no mention of a wife or child in his will.
