Hugh was born in 1914. He was the son of William Alexander Phillips and Elizabeth Pollock. [1]
On the evening of 30 April 1949, he slipped while mounting (or dismounting) a boat at the Bluff wharves, and drowned. The coroner recommended safety improvements to the mooring area. Hugh was 35, single, a fisherman and a watersider. [2] He is buried at Bluff Cemetery. [3] [4]
