John M Pike was born in 1832. His death certificate says he was a lawyer, but it is a big jump from laborer and farmer to lawyer. I think he was a sawyer. Common mistake with the letters L & S. In 1880 his son Anson is running a saw mill.
Just research: I think he might have been born in 1831. There is a John Maslin Pike baptized on 18 Sep 1831 in Ramsbury, Wiltshire, England. Son of David Pike and Hannah Maslin. But can find no immigration. Draft record gives birth in 1831. Tombstone says June 23 1832.... f/g has June 15....[put in a change] Then there is the David Pike and Lucy Lewis that baptized a John on 15 Jul 1832 in Chippenham, St Andrew, Wiltshire, England. But the census in 1851 has him listed and it is possible he is in the 1871, 1881,1891 census married w/ children. Also widowed in 1901 in Chippenham. So we should not rush to judgement on who he is. There were quite a few John Pikes in England.
