Biography

Mayme Viola Coleman nee Pinnell was born Friday, June 9, 1905 in Scotia, Mo., to James Madison Pinnell and Addie Courtney Lewis, and departed this life February 21, 2001 in Hollywood, Florida at the age of 95 years, 8 months and 12 days.

Mayme grew up on a farm near Steelville, Mo. She attended school at Scotia. On June 3, 1923 she was united in marriage to Peter Henderson Coleman in Steelville, Mo. and to this union three children were born. They moved to St. Louis when the children were young. Mayme worked as a riveter during World War II for Curtis Wright Aircraft Co. She was also a housewife and mother. She professed her faith in Jesus Christ as her personal savior, and was a member of Fairview Baptist Church in Jennings, Mo., and later First Baptist Church in St. Johns, Mo. She liked to sew, and enjoyed playing the organ and singing. In 1960 they moved to Florida for health reasons. Mayme enjoyed a long life and was able to stay in her own home until her death.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Peter Henderson Coleman; one son Paul Channing Coleman; one daughter-in-law, Ruth Coleman; one son-in-law Howard Ulrich; three brothers, Carl Pinnell, James Lloyd Pinnell, and William Floyd Pinnell; and one sister, Bessie Helen Pinnell. Those who remain to morn her passing are her children: Mildred Ulrich of Ballwin, Mo., and Shirley Elliott and husband John of Festus, Mo.; two sisters-in-law, Nora Lea of Steelville, Mo., and Lois Mathews and husband Bill of Steelville, Mo.; one brother-in-law Owen Coleman of Steelville, Mo.; nine grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; one great, great grandchild, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends, all who will sadly miss and fondly remember Mayme Viola Coleman. Visitation was held on Sunday, February 25, 2001 from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, Mo. Funeral Service was held on Monday, February 26, 2001 at 11 a.m. at the Hutson Funeral Chapel in Steelville, mo. with Rev. Delmar B. Hutson officiating.

Burial was in the Liberty Cemetery, Steelville, Mo. Memorials may be given to any Hospice organization. All arrangements were under the direction of Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, Mo.
