Biography

Kate Pinyoun was born in Sussex on April 30th 1887. She was baptised in St Wilfrid’s Church, Haywards Heath, on August 30th 1887.

In 1891, at the age of 3 Kate was living in 2 Rock Cottage, Sussex Road, Haywards Heath, Sussex, England, with her parents and 6 siblings.

By 1901 the family had moved to Lewes, in Sussex, living at 7 South Street.

In 1907, ten members of Kate’s family, sailed from Southampton, England, on the SS Philadelphia, for New York. They arrived in New York on June 16th 1907. Their final destination was Cleveland, Ohio.

In 1910 Kate is living at 2158 Prospect Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio. In total 16 people are listed at the address. They include Sydney Hollamby who will marry Kate in 1912.

Their first child, Reginald, is born in Cleveland in March 1913. Katherine, their second child is born in 1916.

In 1920 the family are living at 2529 Carnegie Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio.

Kate’s husband, Sydney, dies in October 1921.

On May 11th 1937, Kate became an American citizen, completing the Naturalisation process in Cleveland.

In 1940, Kate and Katherine are recorded in the census living at 1690 East 90th Street in Cleveland, Ohio. Kate is a Seamstress in a department store.

Kate died on August 18th 1949 in the Women’s Hospital in Cleveland. She had been diagnosed with a malignant melanoma two years earlier.
