Biography

Thomas Plunkett, 2nd Baron Louth, married Margaret Barnewall, dau. and heiress of Nicholas Barnewall, of Dromnah, by his wife Catharine Luttrell, dau. of Richard Luttrell, of Luttrellstown. [1]

1561: William Cantwell[2] served as the Irish Council's negotiator with Shane O'Neill, Prince of Ulster, in August 1561. The 4 men (presumably of the Irish Council) who authorised Cantwell's role were Baltinglass, Howth, Slane and Louth.[3]

Thomas was a justice during the absence of the Lord Deputy 1563; knighted 1566. [1]

Thomas died 1 May 1571, reportedly while endeavoring to recover cattle that had been stolen from him (according to Burke's Peerage), and was succeeded by his son, Patrick, 3rd Baron Louth, who died without heirs. Patrick was succeeded by his brother, Oliver as 4th Baron Louth. [1]
