Biography

James Squire Poignand was born in 1865, his birth registered Young, New South Wales. ^[1]

Marriage. On 31st March 1887, James married Elizabeth Hilder at Grenfell, New South Wales. The Church of England ceremony was performed by Rev. A. R. Raymond. ^[2][3]

James and Elizabeth registered the births of a number of children in New South Wales with Elizabeth Margaret's forenames usually reversed. ^[4][5]

POIGNAND, James Squires.—July 13, 1950, at his residence, 25 Wattle Avenue, Manly, late of Cowra, N.S.W., dearly beloved father of Amy, Joe, Ruby, Fred, and Sid, also Archie (deceased), aged 85 years. ^[7]

At his son's home at Manly the death occurred on Thursday of a former well known Cowra resident, Mr. James Squire Poignand.

The late Mr. Poignand left Cowra some years ago after having conducted a coach-building and later an undertaking business in the town.

He had been ill for a long time.

Deceased is survived by three sons, Joe (formerly of Cowra), Fred and Sid (all of Manly), and two daughters, Amie (Mrs. Beale, Manly), and Ruby (Mrs. Barney Peterson, Sydney).

One son, Archie, predeceased him.

His wife also predeceased him five years ago.

One sister, Mrs. Muir (Cowra) and one brother, Alf (Sydney) also survive him. ^[8]
