Waikato Argus, Volume XXXVI, Issue 5769, 20 November 1914
The death occurred at Te Awarnutu at 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon of Mr John Pollard, one of the oldest and most highly respected residents of this district. The late Mr Pollard, who at the time of his death was 64 years of age, had enjoyed remarkably good health until about six months ago, when a serious illness confined him to bed until the time of his death. His absence from local affairs has been very much felt, and the whole district deeply regrets his demise. He was born in Ireland, and landed in New Zealand 46 years ago, and for a few years resided in the Taranaki district. For forty years he has been in Waikato, where he was very well known and highly respected, He is survived by his wife, and a grownup family of five boys and two girls, with whom universal sympathy is felt. The funeral will leave his late residence for St. John's Cemetery at 2.30 p.m. tomorrow (Saturday).
