Biography

Jesse Polly/Polley first appears in the federal census of Washington County, Kentucky, in 1840. He and his wife have four young children. The other Polly family members in that county moved there from Knox County around the year 1835. It is natural to propose that Jesse was part of that group and indeed, in 1850 we find Jesse and Susan living next door to Uriel "Rial" Polly, his brother.

The U.S. census shows that Jesse and his wife Susan were parents to:

  1. Hugh, b. 1833
  2. Claiborne, b. 1835
  3. Priscilla "Prissy", b. 1837
  4. Louisa J., b. 1843
  5. Milly A., b. 1845
  6. Daniel, b. 1847
  7. Elizabeth, b. 1850
  8. Susan, b. 1852


1830 - Jesse is not found in the census of Knox County, Kentucky. He is surely one of the young men in the household of his mother Patsy Polly.

1833 - Jesse is not found in the tax records of Knox County.[1] But in 1833 he appears for one year in the tax list of neighboring Whitley County. [2]

1840 - Residing in Washington County, Ky.[3]

1850 - Residing in Washington County, Ky.[4]

1860 - Residing in District 2, Hart County, Ky.[5]

1870 - Residing in Munfordville District, Hart County, Ky.[6]

1880 - Residing in Powder Mills District, Hart County, Ky.[7]
