My late mother, Nancy Pierce, after graciously agreeing to have her mtDNA tested, was amazed to find that she (as do I) carried the mitochondrial DNA of our Native grandmother, Anne Marie, of Port Royal, Nova Scotia. She was very pleased to meet other Acadian cousins from the same region of Nova Scotia when they traveled from Nova Scotia to Maryland for a visit a few years prior to her death. My son, my brother, my mother, a cousin originally from New Brunswick (Canada), and now, several other matrilineal descendants of Anne Marie Unknown all carry the same, exact, genetic signature of the A2f1a haplogroup.
