Hattie is the daughter of Benjamin Taliferro Porter 1817–1896 and Mary Jane Lanning Porter 1821–1901. She was married twice. First to Joseph A. Lockett on Feb 5,1871. Divorced from Joseph A. Lockett and secondly married Albert C. Taylor on Jan 15,1882 in Burnet, Texas.

Preceeded to Hattie's death one son and one daughter preceeded their mother in death. Hattie was survived by five children stated in her obituary- Mrs. A.B. Groves, Mrs. Ida Anderson, Mrs. Eva Blackwell, Mrs. O.H. Holloway, and Miss Flora Taylor; one brother - J.W. Porter.
Hattie also was an active worker in the Methodist Church. She was a master of needlework and pieced quilt tops for several hours a day. She gave each of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren quilts she had pieced and stitched by hand as mentioned in her obituary.
