Richard was born in 1927. He was the son of Henry Portwood and Zelma Whitworth.[1] He was the adopted son of Richard Jackson.[2] He married

Richard Clayton "Dick" Jackson, 89, of Harbor Springs died Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2016, with his loving wife, June, at his side.
Dick was born on July 20, 1927, in Detroit, Mich., the son of Phillip and Zelma (Whitworth) Jackson. Dick proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy at the close of World War II, and following his discharge, received his engineering degree and went to work for General Motors in Detroit with their Advanced Research and Development Department. Dick retired from General Motors in 1988 with more than 30 years of dedicated service.
In 1950, Dick married Patricia Joy Hovey, and she preceded him in death in 1994. On Feb. 27, 1996, Dick married June B. Padley in North Carolina and the two made their home in Harbor Springs.
Dick was an all-around great guy and a wonderful grandfather and great-grandfather. He was an avid reader and loved playing golf in good weather and traveling when the weather wasn't as good. He will be greatly missed by all those that knew and loved him.
Dick is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, June; a son, Scott (Joy) Jackson of Rochester Hills, Mich.; three stepsons, Bill (Kim) Gallagher of Loveland, Colo., Mason Gallagher of Fayetteville, N.C., and Gordon (Tamela) Gallagher of Spring Lake, Mich.; eight grandchildren, Christine Jackson, Tom Jackson, Danny Jackson, Nicole (David) Kavin, Della Ann Gallagher, Amara (Patrick) Terry, Padley Gallagher and Prescott Gallagher; and by a great-granddaughter, Addie.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Patricia; and by two sons, Marc Jackson in 2014 and Jeff Jackson in 2008.
Dick's family will receive friends at the Schiller Funeral Home on Saturday, Nov. 5, from 4-7 p.m. for a memorial gathering to celebrate Dick's life.
