Biography

Abraham Post was baptisted 24 Oct 1798 at Kingston, Ulster, New York as per his DAR record. He married twice: Maria Schut, Anneke Schoonmaker. Had sons Cornelius who m. Elizabeth Bekker, Jacobus who m. Elizabeth Viele, Petrus who m. Debora Schoonmaker. ^[1]

During the year of 1757, Sergeant Abraham Post led a band of Saugerties men as scouts along the western frontier of Ulster County which was peculiarly harassed by Indians ^[2]

Abraham Post performed Patriotic Service in New York in the American Revolution.

Abraham Post is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A091446.

Abraham Post signed the Articles of Association in 1775 and also served as a member of the First Ulster County Regiment, while his sons, John, Jacobus, Abraham A. & Cornelius Post served in the same regiment as privates; his son Peter Post was a Lieutenant of the same regiment ^[3][4][5]

His son-in-law, Peter Fiero served in the same regiment ^[6]

His son-in-law Alexander Mc Kenzie served in Ulster County Militia (LBR) First Regiment ^[7]

The will of Abraham Post, yeoman, dated 11 Nov 1790; proved 12 Feb 1798; Estate to wife, Anneke (second wife), sons, Jan, Jacobus, Abraham & Cornelius; five children of son Peter, deceased; daughters, Mary, wife of Peter Fiero and Catharine, wife of Alexander Mc Kenzie. To Abraham P. Post, son of my deceased son, Peter Post, my Dutch Bible. Executors: Christopher Kiersted & Petrus Mynderse, yeomen of the town of Kingston, NY. 12 Feb 1798, the surviving executor declines to serve. Isaac Post, grandson, son of Jacobus Post & Peter Fiero, son-in-law, appointed administrators, ^[8]

Edition of 15 Oct 1869, A letter in possession of the late Jeremiah Russell was directed to Abraham Post, by his son Petrus who was the grand father of Peter P. Post, Esq., of this village, dated 23 Apr 1758 in Dutch. (ST 355)
