Biography

Louis Potvin was born to Louis Potvin dit Saint-Louis and Marie Madeleine Blosse dite Belhumeur (sometimes known as Magdelaine). He was married twice:

• Suzanne Poyrier (daughter of Joseph Poirier and Marie Anne Cuillerier on 19 Oct 1801 at Sainte-Jeanne-de-Chantal, on L'Île Perrot. They had 6 children. ^[1]
• Catherine Nekemberg on 13 Jan 1812, also at Sainte-Jeanne-de-Chantal, on L'Île Perrot. They had 8 children. ^[2]

Marriages

Louis Podevin, son of Louis Podevin and Marie Magdeleine Blosse dite Belhumeur, married Susanne Poyrier, daughter of the late Joseph Poyrier and Marie Anne Cuillerier, on 19 Oct 1801 in Île-Perrot. ^[3]

• Witnesses: Joseph Blosse dit Belhumeur, uncle, taking the place of the father, and Pierre Lamagdeleine dit Ladoceur from the groom's side; Jean Baptiste Poyrier, brother the place of the father, and Pierre Poyrier from the bride's side.

Louis and Susanne had 6 children. Their last child, Paul, was born on 4 Oct 1811, baptized in Vaudreuil (St-Michel), but died eleven days later. Susanne also died in October 1811, and she and her newborn son Paul were both buried on 17 October 1811 in the cemetery of Sainte-Jeanne-de-Chantal, Île-Perrot.

Louis Potdevin, widower of the late Susanne Poyrier dite Déloge, married Catherine Heckenbert, daughter of the late Frèdéric Heckenbert, docteur, and Marie Josephte Daoust, of this parish, on 13 Jan 1812 in Île-Perrot. ^[4]

• Witnesses: Pierre Poyrier dit Renard, brother-in-law taking place of the father, Jacque Ladéroute, nephew from groom's side; Jean Baptiste Poyrier dit Déloge, uncle, taking place of the father from bride's side.

Research Notes

No birth or baptismal record has been found (yet) for Louis. However, the marriage record indicates he was a "fils majeur" - of age of majority - which would make him at least 25 years old (or 21 years old), so would have to have been born before 1781 ... likely 1776 or earlier. There is a three year gap in siblings between 21 Nov 1774 (sister Louise) and 3 Feb 1778 (brother François) in which he could fit possibly.
