Herring Creek Parish, was formed in 1695 with the establishment of the Church of England and incorporated St. James Church, which was already standing. Herring Creek Parish consisted of Herring Creek Hundred and the major part of West River Hundred in Anne Arundel County. In 1695 Anne Arundel County was divided into six hundreds and four parishes.
