Biography

US Black Heritage Project
Kitty Powell is a part of US Black heritage.

Kitty was born before 1833. She was enslaved by Jeremiah Powell (abt.1792-abt.1839) on the Pleasant Grove Plantation, Leon County, Florida. Powell is being used temporarily until her actual name can be determined.

In 1833, Benjamin Chaires gives security for Jeremiah Powell, and Powell uses his slaves for security in a transaction that appears to be a loan to pay off a debt to Nathan Powell. Kitty was one of those slaves.[1]
