Bessie was born about 1889 in Missouri to John & Belle Busby Powell.

Bessie married Earnest Sipes on September 18, 1906.^[1]

Earnest and Bessie are recorded in the 1910 US Census as living in Lexington Ward 2, Lafayette, Missouri. "Ernest Sipe" is listed as 25 years old and the head of the house, born in Missouri. Bessie "Sipe" is listed as 24 years old and as his wife, born in Missouri. One daughter, "Marie A Sipe" is listed as an infant, born in Missouri. Also in the household are Charles M Johnsen, 38, Sweden, Ellen T Johnson, 30, Sweden, and Alva Olson, 7, Missouri, (an adopted daughter).^[2]

Earnest and Bessie Sipes are recorded in the 1920 US Census as living in Doniphan, Ripley, Missouri. Earnest is listed as 35 years old and the head of the house, born in Indiana. Bessie is listed as 30 years old, born in Missouri. Children are listed as: Mary, 13; Richard, 11; Carl, 6; Clyde, 3; Donnie, 1; all are listed as being born in Missouri.^[3]

She passed away on December 18, 1965.^[5]

Bessie and Earnest are buried in the Amity Cemetery, Poynor, Ripley, Missouri. The engraving on the gravestone for Bessie reads, "BESSIE M. | JAN. 30, 1889 | DEC. 18, 1965". The engraving for Earnest reads, "EARNEST | MAY 18, 1885 | OCT. 22, 1958".^[6]
