Birth

Alfred was born in 1844 in Leafield, Oxfordshire^[1]. He was the son of Caleb Pratley and Elizabeth Newman.

Marriage

Alfred Pratley and Ann Pratley were married after banns in Leafield, Oxfordshire on 14th September 1868^[2]. They were bachelor and spinster and both living in Leafield at the time. Alfred was of full age, working as a labourer and the son of Caleb Pratley who was a labourer. Ann was 19 and the daughter of Richard Pratley who was a labourer. Alfred signed his own name on the register whilst Ann could only make her mark with a cross. The witnesses to the marriage were Ambrose Kearse and Ledry Hedley^[3].
