Hannah Prescott was born about 1639 in Watertown, Massachusetts Bay Colony. Her parents were John and Mary (Gawkroger) Prescott. Her birth year is guessed based on her marriage in 1660. Her birth location in inferred from where her parents were living at the time.
Hannah married John Rugg, as his second wife, on 4 May 1660, in Lancaster, Middlesex (later Worcester), Massachusetts Bay Colony.[1][2] John's first wife was Hannah's sister Martha, who in 1656 died along with her twins in a difficult childbirth.
Hannah and John had children, all born in Lancaster:[3][4]
Jonathan (1680/1), married Sarah Newton, then Hannah Singletary, then Elizabeth _____
John wrote his will on 9 December 1696. He bequeaths to wife Hannah, to sons John, Thomas, Joseph, Daniel, and Jonathan, and to daughters Mercy and Hannah. He died shortly thereafter, as his inventory was taken on 19 January 1696/7.[5]
On 11 September 1697 Lancaster was attacked by Native Americans at the end of King William's War, an offshoot of the war between France and England. Hannah, her son John, and his wife and three children were all killed.[2]
