Biography

On 8 Jun 1900 at the time of the 1900 US Census, head of household Mathias Pribyl (age 46, born in 1854 Bohemia) was employed as a machinist and living in a home he owned with a mortgage at 388 Erie in St. Paul, Minnesota with his wife Anna (Kotlaba) Pribyl (age 47, born Dec 1852 in Bohemia); their son Albert Pribyl (age 19, born Apr 1881 in Bohemia); daughter Marie Marcella Pribyl (age 17, born Jun 1883 in MN); son John Albert Pribyl (age 13, born Apr 1887 in MN); son Joseph Pribyl (age 10, born Mar 1890 in MN); and son Emil Pribyl (age 6, born Jan 1894 in MN). Mathias and Anna had been married for 22 years; Anna had given birth to 9 children, 5 of whom were still alive at that time. Mathias, Anna, and Albert immigrated to the USA in 1883; Mathias was a naturalized citizen. Both of Mathias’ parents were born in Bohemia; both of Anna's parents were born in Bohemia. At some point between the US Census in 1900 and the Minnesota Census in 1905, Mathias Pribyl left his wife and children and ultimately settled in Dupree, Ziebach County, South Dakota, USA. He worked there as a farm laborer for the remainder of his life. He never returned to Minnesota. His remains are interred in an unmarked grave in Dupree Cemetery in South Dakota. [1] [1]
