Nicholas was admitted to St John's, Cambridge in 1624; B.A. 1628-9; M.A. 1632. Name at Cambridge "Prowde"
He was collated Archdeacon of Cashel on 21 September 1640 and installed on 24th September. Vicar of Ballysheehan, Tipperary, 1640; of Killenaule, 1640; of Ballingarry, 1640.
He was driven from Ireland during the rebellion of 1641.
Appointed Curate of St Mary's, Shrewsbury, Salop, 28 August 1644. Vicar of Meole, and of Diddlebury, c. 1655.
He returned to Ireland.
Perhaps he received a new presentation as Archdeacon of Cashel after the Restoration, for he exhibited his Patent at the Visitation in April, 1661. [Ch. Book.]
Vicar of Laracor, Meath, 1664-9. Rector of Islandmagee, Antrim, 1665. was He was presented Dean of Clonfert on 31 October 1666, and was installed on 21st April (ff.)

Children
Nicholas married in 1663 (2) Alice Jones, daughter of Lewis Jones, Bishop of Killaloe and Mabel Ussher and sister of Henry Jones, Bishop of Meath and Sir Theophilus Jones, Knt. She was the widow of Richard Ash of Summerstown.
It is assumed that the children, George, Ellinor, Mary, Anna and Jane mentioned in the will abstract are children from a previous marriage of Nicholas Proud [Prowde], as Alice does not mention them in her own 1685 will. [1]
