Thomas died on 17 December 1913 and was buried in 1913 in Alton, Crawford, Indiana, United States.[6] [7]
Thomas son of Mr. and Mrs. Amos Purcell was born in Shannon Co., MO., Oct 4, 1839. He enlisted in the Civil War in 1863 and served two years and eleven months in Company B. 3rd Indiana Calvary. He was wounded in the Gettysburg battle. In the year of 1867 he was united in marriage to Miss Leah Lindsey of Crawford county, Indiana. To this union were born four children three sons and one daughter, Mrs Perce Bullington, of Loveland, Col., and Elihugh, Sheridan, and Huyson all of Crawford county. Something like thirty-five years ago, he was united with the M.E. church and lived a constant Christian till his death. Uncle Tom as he was known by all who knew him has been in poor health for sometime but he bore his suffering patiently and always had a smile and a kind word for everyone who met him. If he ever had an enemy no one ever knew it. Wednesday morning Dec. 10 he was stricken with apoplexy and paralysis and never spoke any more. He remained in that condition until Wednesday morning Dec. 17, 1913 at half past one when the Heavenly Father called him home. Age seventy-four years 2 months and thirteen days. He leaves his aged companion his four children and thirteen grandchildren to mourn for him. The body was laid to rest in the East cemetery Thursday morning at eleven o'clock. Funeral services were conducted at the grave by Rev. Valentine Deich pastor of the Leavenworth M.E church.
