Sir William Purves, 1st Bt. married Margery Fleming, daughter of Robert Fleming.

He died in 1684/85.

He was created 1st Baronet Purves, of Purves Hall, co. Berwick [S., 1665] in July 1665.

"Sir William Purves, of Purves Hall, co. Berwick, only s. of Robert Purves, of Abbeyhill, co. Edinburgh, Burgess of that city (d. 1655), by Anne Douglas, his wife, was an officer in the Court of Session, holding afterwards, 1656, an office in the Court of Exchequer; an Advocate, and, 13 Nov. 1662, Solicitor-Gen. [S.] ; was Knighted and subsequently cr. a. Baronet [S.], as above, 5, 6, or 25 July 1665, there being, however, no record of such creation in the Great Seal Register. He m. Margery, da. of Robert Flemming, of Restalrig. He d. in 1684 or 1685."^[2]
