William Quinby was born October 8, 1693 in Amesbury, Massachusetts, a son of William and Sarah Quinby. William's father disappeared in 1694, and was assumed killed by Indians, and his brother Robert was made guardian of his property on September 26, 1694. William, II had one full sister, Elizabeth Quinby, born March 6, 1689, at Amesbury. In 1705, Robert made an inventory of William, Sr.'s estate. In 1713, the court appointed Josiah Clark as guardian for William, II.
About 1715, William married, at Amesbury, Hannah Barnard, daughter of Joseph Barnard and Mary (Jewell) Barnard. After her death, William married on January 9, 1729, Martha Eastman. The names of the sons born to William are as follows:
