Merze Lorraine Rains was born on April 28, 1908 in Coal Hill, Franklin County, Arkansas. Her father was George Clarence Rains, and her mother was Maud Elizabeth Villines.[1]

In 1910, she lived on Mulberry Road in Wallace Township, Franklin County, Arkansas.[2]

In 1920, she lived on North 13th Street in Fort Smith, Sebastian County, Arkansas. She was the oldest and only child of George and Maud.[3]

In 1930, she continued to live on North 13th Street with her parents. She worked as a music teacher.[4] That same year, she married Thomas Edmond Obar in Franklin County, Arkansas.[5][6]

In 1940, she lived in Bryan, Coal County, Oklahoma. She had at least 2 years of college.[7]

After the death of her husband, she moved to 517 Charles Avenue in Modesto, Stanislaus County, California. She worked as a teacher to earn a living.[8]

Merze died on October 6, 1983 in Stanislaus County, California.[9] She was buried at Highland Cemetery in Durant, Bryan County, Oklahoma.[10]
