The wedding of Hubert William, elder son of Mr. W. T. Raleigh, Goronga, Gembrook, and Denise, eldest daughter-of Mr. Harry Ryan, Allanvale, South Yarra, took place at St. John's Church, Toorak, on April 13, the Rev. C.E. Drought officiating. The bride wore white spotted chiffon over glace silk, berthe of duchesse lace, and Honiton lace veil; sapphire and diamond ring from the bridegroom, and a bangle from her parents. She also carried a shower bouquet of white carnations, heath, and asparagus fern. She was given away by her father. The bride's two sisters, Misses Mollie and Ellis Ryan, and bridegroom's sisters, Adeline and Hilda Raleigh, were bridesmaids, in cream crystal silk; pale blue velvet hats, trimmed with gold and silver roses, and carried wands with shower bouquets of cream roses and pale blue ribbons. The bridegroom's gifts to them were pearl and turquoise brooches. The best man was Mr. Herbert Williams, and groomsman Mr. Ewen Wanliss. The bride travelled in cream serge coat and skirt, brown velvet collar; brown and green felt hat, and black fox furs.
Mr Hubert William Raleigh, 69, whose death occurred recently at Rochester, was well known in legal circles in Melbourne as well as in northern Victoria. He was the elder son of the late Mr William Raleigh, of Melbourne, and was educated at Geelong GS, Trinity Hall, Cambridge, and Melbourne University. He graduated BA (Cantab) and LLB (Melb) and was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria in 1901. After some years with Blake and Riggall he bought a practice in Rochester. On his marriage in 1907 he acquired a property in the district, where he lived until his death. He was intensely interested in everything connected with the land, especially pasture improvement. Until recently Mr Raleigh continued his interest in many forms of sport, particularly shooting, tennis, and golf. He is survived by a widow, two daughters, and one son, George, who is a member of the AIF, and is at present a prisoner of war in Thailand.
