Biography

Alice Evalene Raney was born on July 23, 1911 in Dallas County, Arkansas to parents John Walter Raney and Mary Ada (Barker) Raney. In 1920, she lived in Saline, Cleveland County, Arkansas. On November 23, 1927, she married Carl Henry Barnes Sr in Dallas County, Arkansas and they had at least two children together: Carl Jr. and Elain Elmer. In 1930 and 1940, she lived in Southall Township, Dallas County, Arkansas.

Alice divorced Carl on August 16, 1941 in Dallas County, Arkansas. After her divorce, she worked as a waitress and moved to Pulaski County, Arkansas. On October 1, 1942, she enlisted in the Inactive Reserve of the Women’s Army Corps. The following day, she departed San Francisco, California on board the S.S. Lurline bound for Honolulu, Hawaii and arrived in port on October 8.

Sometime before 1950, Alice married Robert Lloyd Graf and lived in Lubbock, Texas where she worked as a manager at the Cafeteria on the Reese Air Base Post Exchange. She later retired as a food service manager for Texas Tech University and was a member of the Zion Baptist Church in Fordyce, Arkansas.

Alice Evalene Raney passed away on February 2, 2005 in the Dallas County Nursing Home in Fordyce, Dallas County, Arkansas.
