Biography
In 1850, the Rankin family lived on their farm, valued at $1000, in Dundee, Monroe County, Michigan. The family included Samuel Rankin, 45, born in New Hampshire, a farmer; his (new) wife, Rachel, 21, b. NY; and children, all b. MI: Simon, 9, in school; Thankful, 3; and John, 1. Also, Phelps L. Moller, 39, a farmer; his wife, Mary, and their four children. Living nearby were three other Rankin families: Orrin Rankin, 49, his wife Fanny, and their six children; Guy Rankin, 44, wife Joanna, and four children; and David Rankin, 45, wife Sally, and eight children.[1]
