Margaret Rankin was born 15 April 1835 in Massachusetts, the daughter of James Rankin (1804 Ireland-1874 Wisconsin) and Mary Keyes (1811 Ireland-1880 Wisconsin).
In 1860, the Rankin family lived in Lisbon, Waukesha, Wisconsin. The household included James Rankin, 57, born in Ireland, a farmer with $3000 in real estate and $600 in personal estate; his wife Mary, 48, b. Ireland; their ten children, William, 23, b. New York, farm laborer; Margaret, 24, b. Massachusetts; Joseph, 22, b. MA, farm laborer; Humphrey, 20, b. MA, farm laborer; Mary J., 16, b. MA, in school; James, 13, b. Wisconsin, in school; John, 13, b. WI, in school; Stephenson, 11, b. WI, in school; David, 9, b. WI, in school; and Martha, 6, b. WI, in school.[1]
Margaret married Abraham “Abram” Dayton Calkins (1819-1897) (born in New York), the son of Turner and Betsey Calkins, were married on 20 December 1860 in Lisbon, Waukesha, Wisconsin. [2]. They had a son, James Turner Calkins (1867 Wisconsin-1947 Nebraska).
Margaret died on 3 July 1907 in Friend, Saline County, Nebraska.[3][4]Margaret is buried with her husband Abram D. Calkins (1819-1897) at Andrew Cemetery, Friend, Saline, Nebraska. They share a headstone with their son and his wife, James T. and Mary E. Calkins.
