Biography

Fred W. Raschke Jr, 86, passed away Saturday, November 10, 2012. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Iles Funeral Homes-Westover Chapel. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until service time Wednesday.

Fred was born July 17, 1926 in Des Moines to Fred, Sr. and Helen L. Raschke. He lived in Bondurant until he entered the U.S. Navy in 1944. Upon his discharge in 1947, he returned to Des Moines and married Colleen A. Cox. He joined Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 33 and worked in the Des Moines area until his retirement in 1985.

Fred is survived by Colleen, his wife of 65 years; children, Patricia (Thomas) Emerson, Fred III (Kate) Raschke and James Raschke; grandchildren, Chris Andersen, Kimberly (Jeff) Fabor, Stacy (Jeremy) Pollock and David Emerson; great grandchildren, Megan and Alyssa Andersen, Dylan and Emily Fabor, Elizabeth Klemish; Lillian and Arielle Pollock and Thomas Emerson; great great-grandson, Aiden Ostrum. He is also survived by his twin sister, Frances (Richard) Griggs, nieces and nephews. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Jarrold Barrett.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Mercy Hospice in Johnston or Windsor Heights Lutheran Church.
