Dorothy was born on the 18th September 1904 in Barnsley, Yorkshire, England. ^[1]. She was the daughter of Edward John Rashleigh and Julia Esther Arnold. She was baptised on the 4th November 1904 in St. Mary, Barnsley ^[2]. She grew up with his parents in Barnsley ^[3][4].

Dorothy married William James Murtrie on the 17th May 1934 in St John the Baptist, Barnsley, Yorkshire. She was aged 29 years 8 months. ^{[5] [6]}.
