Biography

Joseph was born on 19 Jul 1876 at 26 Wilton Street, Belfast, County Antrim, Ireland. He was the son of William Rea, cloth presser and Annie Rea, formerly Carlisle. The informant was William Rea of 26 Wilton Street, Belfast.[1]

In 1901, Joseph Rea, 24, watchmaker and repairer, was living in house 21 in Crumlin Road (Clifton Ward, Antrim) with his parents, William Rea, 59, and Annie Rea, 53.[2]

In 1911, Joseph Rea, 34, watchmaker and finisher, was living in house 3 in Crumlin Road (Shankill, Antrim) with his father, William Rea, 69.[3]

Joseph Rea founded the family jewellery business, which traded under his name for many years. It was located in Crumlin Road and Ann Street, Belfast.[4]

Joseph died on 20 Dec 1918 at 3 Ashley Villas, Cliftonville Road, Belfast, County Antrim, Ireland. His occupation was jeweller. He was a bachelor and 42 years old. He died from enlargement of the liver (2 years 6 months) and cardiac failure. The informant was his brother, James Rea of Oakwood, Salisbury Drive, Belfast, who was in attendance.[5]

He was buried in grave P679 at Belfast City Cemetery on 22 Dec 1918.[6]
