Biography

BIRTH
Julia Ann Ream was born about 1807. [1] Her maiden name is recorded in her (first) marriage. [2] Julia was the daughter of Jacob Ream aka Rehm and wife Susannah Good Ream who had relocated from Cocalico, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania to Perry County, Ohio and who purchased a town lot in Thornville on the 6th December 1813. [3]

MARRIAGE and CHILDREN
She married 1st Thomas Delvin (1802-1845) on the 28th March 1830 in Perry County, Ohio. [2] Based upon his Clear Creek Cemetery Find-A-Grave memorial [with gravestone image] Thomas Delvin was from County Dublin, Ireland. In the 1830 U.S. Census he was a resident at Thorn, Perry County, Ohio.

Julia and Thomas Delvin had the following known children:

  1. James Cruak Delvin, b. 1830, Perry County, OH. ; d. 29 Sep 1891, Huntington, IN.
  2. Jacob Whitistine, b. abt 1832
  3. John Delvin, b. abt 1834, Perry County ; d. 1 Aug 1886, North Manchester, Wabash, IN.
  4. William Thomas Delvin, b. abt 1837, Huntington, IN. ; d. 22 May 1863, Civil War soldier, Vicksburg, Warren, Mississippi

  7. Julia Ann Delvin, b. 11 May 1847, Huntington, IN. [death certificate] ; m. John Helser ; d. 1 Oct 1932, Huntington

Her husband Thomas Delvin died unexpectedly and "Julia Ann Delvin married [2nd] Daniel Whitestine on the 2nd March 1848 at Huntington County, Indiana." [4]

A peculiarity in the primary source (indexed) marriage records shows that on the 4th March 1848 "Julia Ann Delvin married David Whitestine at Huntington County, Indiana." [5] In the 1850 U.S. Federal Census for Huntington, Indiana, Julia "Whitistine", born about 1809, is the wife of David "Whitistine" who was born about 1804. Based upon this census Julia and David had the following child:

  1. Martha S. Whitestine, b. abt 1848
  2. Sarah Eleanor Whitestine
  3. Lydia Ann Whitestine

DEATH
Julia passed away on the 22nd May 1867 at Warren, Huntington, Indiana. She was buried in the Clear Creek Cemetery at Warren. Her Find-A-Grave memorial includes a gravestone image.
