OBITUARY: On Tuesday, March 7, 2023, Vera Deane Maestas, age 95, went to be in the hands of the Lord. She was born on Friday, November 25th, 1927, in Louisville, KY. She graduated from Jeffersonville High School (IN) in 1945 and went on to study nursing at the Sisters of Charity, St. Joseph's Infirmary in Louisville. After graduating with RN, she began her career with the V.A. Hospital at Bay Pines, Florida. After 10 years in Florida, she sought additional adventure and transferred to the V.A. Hospital in Albuquerque where she met her future husband, Jose Alejandro Maestas. After having two children, Stephen Floyd, and Margaret Helen, the family moved to Las Cruces where they lived for the next 33 years before the couple retired to Albuquerque, NM. Vera was preceded in death by her younger sister, Dorothy Helen, her father and mother John F. and Willie Mae Records. She is survived by her loving husband Jose (Alex), her daughter, Margaret, her son, Stephen, and beloved granddaughter, Abrianna.
