Occupied by mechanics and agricultural labourers. Its streets have no names. It is governed by a baron Bailie elected by the freeholders. Its name originates from Some nunneries that that was at one time it.

John's son James Reid married 24 year old Catherine Borthwick, a spinster and nursery governess of 811 Newington Terrace, Edinburgh at 5 North Buchanan Street, Leith after publication according to the forms of the Church of Scotland. Catherine was the daughter of William Borthwick, brewery manager, and Agnes Borthwick (deceased)(nee Pratt). When James married he was living at 13 Hill Place, Leith and his occupation was mercantile clerk. The marriage was registered on 21st July at South Leith. Witnesses were John Reid, Mary Ann Cowe.
1890 - Marriage of Son: Friday, 28th March at 16 Robertson Street, Greenock, Renfrewshire, Scotland (Aged 63)[12]
John's son John Whitelaw Reid married 28 year old Agnes Orr Carmichael, a spinster of 16 Robertson Street at 16 Robertson Street, Greenock after publication according to the forms of the United Presbyterian Church. Agnes was the daughter of James Carmichael (deceased), grocer, and Agnes Carmichael(nee Saidler). When John married he was living at 3 Ford Place, Greenock and his occupation was clerk. The marriage was registered on 29th March at Greenock. Witnesses were Gilbert Moffat, Ethel B Carmichael.
1891 - Census: Sunday, 5th April at Brown's Land, Nungate, Haddington, Haddingtonshire, Scotland (Aged 64)[13]
