In the 1851 Scotland Census, the family are living at Netherbeath, Dunfermline. Elizabeth is said to be 27 years old and living with her Coalminer husband Thomas Watson (25) and 3 children, John (4), David (2) and Robert (2mths).[2]
In 1858 Elizabeth's son Thomas died in Lasswade, Midlothian.[6]
In the 1861 Scotland Census, the family have moved back to the Midlothian area and are now residing at Lasswade. Elizabeth is said to be 38 years old and living with her husband Thomas (35) who is now employed at a Paper Mill and their children, John (14), David (12), Robert (10), Mary (7) and Elisabeth (2).[3]
We know this family seemed to move around quite a lot. The family stayed in the Lasswade area at least until 1863 when their daughter Helen was born. BY 1866 the fammily were living in Cambusnethan when Jemima was born.
In the 1871 Scotland Census the family have moved again and are now living at 40 Front Street, West Calder, Midlothian. Today West Calder is in the County of West Lothian. Elizabeth is said to be aged 48 and is living with her husband Thomas (45) who is back working as a Miner and their children, Mary (17), Elisabeth (12), Agnes (9), Hellen (7) and Jemima (4).[4]
In the 1881 Scotland Census the family have moved back to Lasswade and are residing at Harpers Brae. Elizabeth is now said to be 58 and is living with her husband Thomas (55) who i snow working as a Labourer, and their children, Agnes (19), Helen (17) and Jemima (14).[9]
