Janet Reid was born on the 24th of August 1852 in Montgreenan, Ayrshire, Scotland. She was the daughter of John Reid and Mary (Barclay) Scott.

She arrived in Tasmania with her family in 1855 aboard the ship ‘Commodore Perry.’ ^[1]

In 1878 Janet Reid marries William Bruce Scott in Longford, Tasmania, Australia. ^[2]
