Biography

Matthias was born in Kyndelose, and baptised on 1 December 1833 in Svenstrup, Sønderborg, Denmark.[1]

1845 Census[2] Matthias was living with his parents in Nordborg, Sønderborg, Denmark with his parents Jens Hansen Rande and Ellen Randle and sister Helene.

On 28 March 1849 in Svenstrup, Sønderborg, Denmark Mathies was conifmed into the Church.[3]

Matthias married Gunder Maria Hanson in 1865 In Victoria, Australia.[4]

He was a list as one of the shareholders in "Newcastle-on-Tyne Gold Mining Co." in 1872.[5]

He passed away on 12 Oct 1902 and was buried in Chewton Cemetery, Chewton, Victoria, Australia[6] [7]

CASTLEMAINE. Mr. Matthias Rende, of Chewton, died on Sunday, at the age of 68 years. He was one of the earliest settlers in the Chewton district, and at one time was one of the largest and most successful mining investors there.[8] [9]
Funeral Notice. THE Friends of the late Mr Matthias Rende are respectfully invited to follow his remains to the place of interment, the Chewton Cemetery. The Cortege will move from his late residence, " Roseville," Chewton, THIS DAY (Monday), at 4 o'clock p.m. NIEBUHR & SON, Undertakers
G.U.O.O.F. Lodge. THE Members of the above Lodge are respectfully invited to follow the remains of their late respected brother, Matthias Rende, to the place of interment, the Chewton Cemetery. Members are requested to be at " Roseville," THIS DAY (Monday), at 4 o'clock p.m. By Order of the N.G., A. C. LAWRENCE, Secretary.[10]
"The remains of the late Mr Matthias Rende were interred in the Cliewton cemetery yesterday afternoon in the presence of representatives of the familv and a number of intimate friends. The coffin was borne to the grave by members of the G.U.O.O.F. lodge, of which deceased was one of the oldest members. The Rev A. Knight conducted the service at the grave, and the funeral arrangements were in the hands of Messrs Niebuhr and Son"[11]
