1940 OBITUARY [from unidentified newspaper clipping] = SERVICES HELD FOR DANIEL RENKE, FORMER RESIDENT Services were conducted Tuesday, October, 22nd, from the German Baptist church for Daniel Renke, a former resident of the city. Rev. A. W. Lang of Tyndall officiated at the services. Daniel Renke was born September 22, 1862 in Kulm, South Russia, and died October 18th, at American Falls, Idaho. He came to the United States at the age of 18 with his parents, and settled on a farm south of Dakota City, in Dakota Territory. In 1884 he married Louisa Litz, nee Wels, whose two children by her first marriage he adopted and brought up as his own. These children are John H. Litz, of Parkston and Christ J. Litz of Scotland. To this marriage five children were born -- four daughters, Mrs. Fred Kline of Mercer, ND; Mrs. John Judge, Mitchell; Mrs. John Schwarz and Mrs. John P. Mehlhaff, American Falls, Idaho; and one son, Albert, San Francisco, California, all of whom survive him. Mr. Renke lived in and near Parkston since coming from Russia with the exception of the last two years since the death of his wife, when he made his home with his daughter, Mrs. John P. Mehlhaff in Idaho. Direct descendants attending the funeral were John and Christ Litz, Mrs. Fred Kline, Mrs. John Judge, four nieces and one nephew, besides a large number of his friends who mourned the passing of a good man.
