Biography

William was born about 1822 in Monquhitter, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. He was the son of William Rettie and Sarah Charles. His only sister was Margaret RETTIE.

In 1841, he lived in Monquhitter, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.^[1]

In 1851 he worked as a Farm Labourer at Muirtown in Forgue, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.^[2] He was 28 years old at that point.

He married Scott SHAND (Abt 1828) in Abt 1853. He was 31 years old when he married Scott SHAND, who was 24 years old at that time. He had two children with Scott SHAND: Sarah RETTIE (8 Oct 1854), William RETTIE (19 Sep 1856).

His wife Scott SHAND died on 24 Nov 1859.

In 1861 he worked as a Farmer's Son at his mother's and father's house at Muirton in Forgue, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.^[3] He was 39 years old at that point and listed as a Widower. His children Sarah and William were also present.

On 9 Jun 1864, he married Jane BUYERS (10 Oct 1827) in Marnoch, Banffshire, Scotland. He was 41 years old when he married Jane BUYERS, who was 36 years old at that time. He had four children with Jane BUYERS: James RETTIE (18 Mar 1865), George RETTIE (29 Jun 1866), Alexander RETTIE (28 Jun 1869), Jane RETTIE (22 Oct 1870).

When he was 43 years old, his mother Sarah CHARLES died (30 Jun 1866).

In 1871 he worked as a Occuping Of 60 Acres Employing 1 Labourer at Feithhill in Inverkeithny, Banffshire, Scotland.^[4] He was 48 years old at that point.

When he was 52 years old, his father William RETTIE died (12 Jan 1875).

On 11 Jun 1877, he died of liver disease at Erskine Place in Alloa, Clackmannanshire, Scotland when he was 54 years old.^[5]
