On a Sunday (or Monday) night, 15 Apr 1860, according to witnesses (conductors of the Kentucky Central Railroad) a crowd of men gathered at a public resort at Frankfort, KY (one newspaper erroneously stated Lexington), Thomas Reynolds and Thomas Evans got into a dispute, in which Reynolds struck Evans with a brick. The parties were separated and Reynolds taken to his residence by friends. Evans, driven to a high degree of desperation, vowed vengeance, armed himself with a loaded gun, and head for Reynold's residence. Refused entrance by Reynolds, Evans thrust his gun through a window and fired twice, wounding Reynolds so severely in the head, that Reynolds died within minutes. Evans was arrested and lodged in jail. On 11 Oct 1860, the Franklin County Circuit Court convicted Evans of murder.
