Great - grandmother to Garry. The date and place of birth, also father and mother's names, were provided by Shirley Matthews, taken from the birth certificate for Sarah. Shirley's notes indicate that Sarah married a Mr GERRARD or GARRARD before marrying Mr HANLON.
However, I'm quite sure that our Sarah Ann Reynolds married Albert Ashley HANLON at Newcastle-upon-Tyne in June quarter of 1903. I now have a copy of this marriage certificate and it shows that Sarah WAS a spinster at marriage, her father is shown as Thomas, a farmer. I am 95% sure this must be the marriage. Perhaps Mr GERRARD was an affair rather than a marriage??
Sarah's brother moved to Liverpool and married a lass who's family was from Newcastle upon Tyne. One theory (unproven) is that Sarah may have stayed with her brother in Liverpool a while and met Albert there. She then obtained work in Newcastle through the family connections, and Albert followed her and they married there. But why Albert used the ASHLEY-HANLON name is quite curious !!
The grave for Sarah and her second husband Pryce Roberts is a simple one in Cockshutt church yard. I have a photograph of it taken in January 2005.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Sarah by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Sarah:
