Mary was born on 31 July 1852 in Blooming Grove, Ohio. She was the daughter of Samuel P. Rice and Rebecca Middleswart.^[1]

When Mary was 21 she married Thomas Cox on 4 September 1873 in home of Samuel Rice (father), Marysville, Sutter, Calif. The couple had one child: Clare Rice Cox.^[2]

When Mary was 30 she married Amos C. Young on 18 January 1883 in "Near this city", CA.^{[2] [3]}

Anecdote: 10 November 1899 in S Rice Birthday Party.^[4]

Mrs. Young was referred to as "well-versed in the culinary

art".

Mary died at the age of 53 on 7 May 1906 in her home, Sacramento, Sacramento, Calif.^[1]

Mary was buried on 9 May 1906 in Sutter City Cemetery, Sutter City, Sutter, Calif.^[1]
