Biography

Josephine (Rice) Spencer is a part of US Black heritage.

Josephine was born on 24 May 1891 in Connersville, Fayette County, Indiana, United States of America. She was the daughter of Charles Rice and Anna Demus.^[1] Her father died when she was young. In 1900 and 1910, Josephine was living with her mother and siblings in Connersville.^[2][3]

She married Charles Andrew Spencer (1890-1980) on 4 May 1911.^[1] They lived in Cincinnati, Ohio, and had three children. As a young adult, Charles worked as a porter and later on he worked as a clerk at the post office.^[4][5][6]

Josephine died on her 70th birthday, 24 May 1961. She was buried in Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati.^[7][8]
